M30S++ Fan Replacement: What We See in Workshop Batches
Whatsminer M30S++ units from 2023 batches often need fan swaps by year three — notes from our Guro spare-parts shelf.

The M30S++ remains one of the more common second-generation units in Korean co-location. Nominal rating is 112 TH/s at 3472 W. By the third year of continuous operation, we see a predictable pattern in fan wear.
Bearing Noise as Early Signal
Before hashrate drops, operators report a high-pitched whine from the exhaust side. RPM readings may still look normal because the controller compensates until the bearing seizes partially. We log acoustic notes during intake because clients rarely have sound meters on site.
Stock Fan Lifespan
In filtered, 24°C environments, stock fans often last 30–36 months. Basement installs without filtration frequently need replacement at 18–22 months. We keep a small inventory of compatible fans for measurement consistency during bench runs, but we do not sell parts — we document part numbers for client procurement.
Hashrate Impact
A seized fan on one hashboard can throttle the entire unit. We have measured drops from 110 TH/s to 78 TH/s on a single-fan failure. After replacement, output typically returns within 3% of pre-failure levels unless heat damage occurred on the hashboard itself.
Recommendation
Budget two fan sets per ten M30S++ units for year-three operations. Pair fan checks with quarterly grille cleaning. The cost is lower than emergency hashboard replacement after thermal throttling.
